Some wines are only produced in small quantities when a season's harvest is especially good.
Vintage dessert wines are listed separately.
We have produced single variety Cabernet Sauvignon as a special for the region’s michelin star gastronomy in rare years.
A very different Beerenauslese – this wine surprises through a fiery acidity-sugar interplay.
The reduced sweetness makes this wine the perfect partner for any fruity dessert – less attractive with chocolate.
This is the premium selection of our reserve quality Cuvée X and is only produced when conditions are extremely good. During blind tastings Cuvée XR has even been known to put Chateau Mouton Rothschild in its place.
So far Cuvée XR has only been produced in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
The wine is only sold 5 years after harvesting.
This wine stems from an old vineyard in the Laumersheimer Kapellenberg. Rare!
Enchanting rose scent, exotic fruit and aroma reminiscent of Lychee.
Goes well with any strong soft cheese such as Munster.
This historic variety allegedly dating back to Charles the Great had previously been cultivated in the best sites of Palatinate and the Rhine region. In the 19th century it had almost completely vanished in favour of Riesling.
We cultivate the grape as a trial on a small scale. The wines usually display a prominent acidity, but can be produced as dessert wines or matured barrique wines.
The Mergelweg parcel is situated on the southern edge of our Kirschgarten site and is characterized by limestone defining minerality and depth in the wines that grow here.
Since the 2007 vintage the wines from the Mergelweg site are part of KIRSCHGARTEN Großen Gewächs and are therefore no longer filled separately.
This wine will only be produced in good years. The grapes stem from our best Großen Gewächse Pinot Noirs. Fermentation is in new barriques having been on the lees for 6 months.
Stylistically this wine is close to Pinot Blanc and Gris and is fantastic with lobster and crayfish.
Some of the best vintage Riesling wines are vinified traditionally in a 600 l wooden barrel (Halbstück). These wines will only show their true greatness after several years of bottle fermentation. That’s why we will only sell them after a minimum of 3 years in the bottle. The very best Rieslings will mature for a minimum of 5 years in our cellars as Halbstück Réserve.
Since 1993 we have been trialling Syrah in our vineyards.
This classic Rhone variety brings forward peppery, spicy wines that demand a certain bottle maturation to unfold their full potential. We vinify this deep red wine for 18-20 months in new and used barriques.
In 2007 we have been able to produce a Syrah Reserve for the first time, which will be available for sale in 2012.
