Selektive Handlese. Klassische Maischegärung. 12 Monate Ausbau in gebrauchten Barriques

Grapes for this wine mainly stem from a mixed vineyard; they are then pressed together. The Cuvée is made in stainless steel tanks bringing forward wines with pronounced Pinot aromas. Chardonnay brings the spice whereas Pinot Blanc adds silkiness and weightier flavours, enhancing body and strength.

This flavoursome white is fermented and matured in new barriques and is only sold after a minimum maturation period of 5 years in the bottle.

A Chardonnay in Pinot style, however taste and nose are lime-dominated.

The grapes mainly originate from the parcels ”Im großen Garten“ and the Großen Gewächs site ”Burgweg“.

This Sekt is made by the traditional method and has matured several years on the lees. It’s delicate mousseux has wine character and is therefore a great accompaniment to food.

This cuvée, intense in colour, is a great estate wine that can serve as an alternative to our Pinot Noir.

The base is Cabernet and Dornfelder, which is supplemented with varying shares of other red grape varieties. Due to the maturing in used, older barrique, the wine benefits from distinct notes of cassis and other red fruit.

The name ”Gaudenz“ has been chosen as an homage to an ancestor of the Knipser family (see origins).

Fermented in stainless steel tank from Cabernet and other red grapes. An excellent summer sipping wine. This rosé is fresh and easy-drinking.

This is our flagship wine inspired by the classic Bordeaux cuvée. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in the Médoc style.

We mature this wine mostly in new barrique for about 18-20 months rewarding us with spicy aroma of cassis, tabac, coffee and cedar.

This wine has a long ageing potential and is available in Magnums.

The Dornfelder is a newer grape variety that is well-established in the whole of Palatinate. In 1981 vines were planted in the vineyard site ”Laumersheimer Kirschgarten“.
The wine matures in new barrique for about 18-20 months resulting in an almost black, spicy and textured wine.
In the last few years the Dornfelder grape has attracted some controversy and we have since cleared this vineyard after harvest in 2007. Hence, there will be no Dornfelder from this site after 2007.

The mature Gewürztraminer grapes often lack acidity and so really benefit from the acidity that the Riesling adds to this Cuvée. The aromas are more of a classic Gewürztraminer with distinct lychee and rose notes.

This dry Riesling Spätlese is the link between our Kabinett and the Großen Gewächsen. This wine captivates one through its silkiness, body and delicate fruit.

The vineyard was formerly owned by a convent in Worms.
Loess loam with excellent water retaining ability; limestone in the subsoil. Since 2007 ‘Mergelweg’ has become part of this vineyard which is dominated by limestone.

Mostly, this site brings forward a classic Pinot Noir with fine fruit aroma and brittle tannins that can still age splendidly.

The ”Kapellenberg“ wines are characterised by alluvial sediments – light soil with grit and sand.
The Riesling from this site is lively and mineralic, often with exotic fruit on the nose. The wines are ready to drink in their youth, but will age for several years.

The wines originate from the core parcel ”Himmelsrech“ (literally heaven). Expressive, frequently exotic fruit (pineapple and passion fruit), delicate play of acidity, very long aftertaste. In their youth these wines are often warmer and more appealing than the wines from the ”Steinbuckel“ site.

This speciality Sekt derives from the traditional method of bottle fermentation. The wine lies on the lees for up to 10 years. The white fermented Pinot Noir develops aroma reminiscent of brioche, bread crust and yellow mature pear typically found in Champagne.

Our best Pinot Gris grows in the Große Gewächs sites ”Mandelpfad“ and ”Steinbuckel“. In good years and after careful selection we only ferment the best grapes in new barrique and let them lie on the yeast for about 6 months. The results are concentrated, lasting wines with intense aroma.

This Pinot Gris has a soft mouth feel, an intense aroma and a basket of vivid fruits. This full-bodied, well-balanced (low acidity) white wine is vinfied both in traditional wooden barrels and in stainless steel tanks.

This wine originates in the core of the parcel ”Im großen Garten“; a relatively steep south-facing slope in the Eckbach valley. The top-soil being heavy, interspersed with small limestone rocks over limestone resembles the soils in Côte d'Or.

The wine’s intense aroma is reminiscent of mature raspberries, has great mineralic depth and a long aftertaste.

This classic Pinot Noir originates from our premium site ”Burgweg“ and is strongly influenced by the limestone terroir. We vinfiy this wine in new or second fill barriques for about 18 to 20 months.  The end result is a red wine in the Burgundy style with raspberry and cherry aromas.
In its youth the wine displays tight tannins that help the wine to age for about 10 years.

This is a wine in the Mosel style with a wonderful play between acidity and stimulating sweetness. Low-alcohol (9%), but great pleasure. Chilled, it resembles an exquisite lemonade. A wonderful start to an evening.
This Riesling is only available in certain vintages.

A classic sweet ”Auslese“, bordering on the verge of ”Beerenauslese“.
Fantastic accompaniment to savoury blue and red-yellow soft cheeses.

This wine is made in the traditional way with a second fermentation in the bottle, having rested on the lees for at least 12 months. This is a well-balanced (low acidity), fruity ”Sekt“ of typical Riesling character.

This is a typical bone-dry wine with a bite. Residual sugar is below 4g/l, often less than 1g/l.

A classic German Riesling. The vintage 2003 is excellent and ready to drink now. Other vintages that are off-dry are available.
This wine is great on its own, but is a superb accompaniment to Asian food.

A highlight in every vintner’s life and a very special gift from nature is the harvest of a ”Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese“.
The grapes have been hand-selected grape by grape. Very low yield.

This wine can be cellared for decades.

We have so far only been able to make this wine three times in the past 30 years of which we can currently offer two.

2003 Laumersheimer Kapellenberg Riesling TBA
In 2006 this wine was awarded ‘Best Dessert Wine in the World’ by Decanter magazine (World Wine Awards).

2008 Mandelpfad Dirmstein 1. Lage Riesling TBA
In July 2009 this wine was awarded ‘Best German Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese’ by the business magazine Capital.

This grape variety, originating from the Loire, enthrals through its array of aromas: gooseberry, peach and elderflower.
Through reductive vinification in stainless steel tanks the freshness of the wines are preserved, even emphasised.
This is the perfect summer wine charming through voluptuous fruit and low alcohol.

This is a classic Rosé appealing through its pronounced aroma.

The ”St. Laurent“ grape is indigenous to the Palatinate region.
In the premium vineyard ”Burgweg“ the St. Laurent grapes bring forward a wine that is savoury, mineralic and has a cherry aroma.
They mature mostly in new barriques (partly from Palatinate oak) for about 18-20 months. These wines have a long ageing potential.

The ”Steinbuckel“ brings forward wines that are dominated by its limestone terroir – mineralic, long aftertaste with a good ageing potential. After maturing, when they reach their peak they display aromas of green gauge and peach.

This spirit is created in our own distillery from selected Trester – the remains of grapes that have been pressed very gently. After distilation the maturing process needs its time and hence the spirit is stored in used barriques for at least for 7 years where it develops its fine aroma and amber colour.
